Spring Semester 2012
- Business in China

China is an ideal location for learning about international business. As the worlds third largest economy, it is one of the worlds largest exporters and importers of goods. China is also one of the worlds oldest civilizations with a history of nearly 5,000 years. Its rich cultural heritage makes China an excellent location for studying Asian culture.

Apply - International Business Program in Switzerland

The Switzerland program is for certified majors and minors in the WSU College of Business. Students who are certified in other majors at WSU and interested in receiving an IBUS minor are encouraged to apply. The program is located at Cesar Ritz Colleges (CRC) in Brig, which lies in the heart of the Swiss Alps. The immediate surroundings of the town offer unequaled beauty and opportunities to relax, whether hiking in the spring or skiing in the winter. Faculty members from WSU and CRC will provide course instruction in English (up to 15 credit hours). WSU students take classes along side CRCs dynamic international student body. WSU Students participate on an exciting three to five day excursion to locations such as Turkey, Prague and Italy. Location for Spring still to be determined.

Apply - Master of Accounting Semester in China

China is also one of the worlds oldest civiliza tions with a history of nearly 5,000 years. Its rich cultural heritage makes China an excellent loca tion for studying Asian culture.
The College of Business Master of Accounting Semester in China program is offered in Chengdu, capital of the Sichuan Province located in south-western China. Chengdu has the reputation as a very laid-back city that emphasizes culture and relaxation. In recent years, Chengdu has attracted a variety of information technology multinationals including Intel, IBM, NOKIA, Motorola, SAP, Siemens, Canon, HP, Xerox, and Microsoft, as well as major international financial institutions, including Citi group, HSBC, Standard Chartered Bank, ABN AMRO, and BNP Paribas.
In Chengdu, students can enjoy authentic world-known Sichuan cuisine and the Sichuan opera. A favorite of visitors is the Panda Research Base. Other popular day-trips include a tram-ride up Emeishan and visits to the Giant Buddha at Leshan and the Bronze Age (circa 2800 to 800 B.C.) archeological site of Sanxingdui. Chengdu also provides convenient access for weekend excursions to tourist desti nations such as Beijing, Shanghai, Xian, Guangzhou and Jiuzhaigou nature reserve.

This program is an opportunity for students to work with the non-profit organization Hearts In Motion whose mission is to provide care and medical treatment for children, families, and communities through its programs and sponsorships in the U.S., and Central and South America. This particular mission includes four main activities, and students will be expected to participate in all of them in some way, be it as translators or helpers: Cleft Lip and Palate/ Plastic surgery, medical and dental clinics, ongoing construction in the HIM nutrition center, and work at the school and day-care center.

Join us during twelve days of exploration of the island that will take students and faculty to the streets of Havana where the colonial influence will be seen through its architecture and urban development, museums and churches, as well as the arts, while romantic music and dancing will surround you.
Cuba's political history influences everything you will see, from religion to society, from economics to agriculture as well as the environment. During the program you will be exposed to the Spanish language and will have opportunities to talk to locals, and visit neighborhood clinics as well as schools and universities.
This is a once-in-a-lifetime experience you do not want to miss... and yes you will have an opportunity to swim in the Caribbean and perhaps snorkel.

Apply - Business in Greece

Take advantage of the opportunity to earn six to nine credit hours while visiting the land where civilization began, the unique and culturally rich country of Greece. Students will enjoy the sun and the sea while experiencing an ancient yet modern civilization. As students interact with the local population, they will learn how many Greek words are the ancient roots of the English language. Students will have the opportunity to visit Skiathos, one of the most popular islands in the Aegean sea; Athens, the city with the most glorious history in the world; and Delphi, the place where heaven and earth met and the most important archeological site in Greece. Students will also be able to visit some of the most famous monasteries in Meteora.

- Business in Northern Thailand
- Dates: May 10, 2012 - June 18, 2012
Study in Chiang Mai, a place known for its amazing food, magnificent landscape, and friendly people. Chiang Mai is 350 miles north of Bangkok, nestled between the mountains of the tropical north.
During the six-week summer program, students will be immersed in the local community. Business courses are offered at the prestigious Chiang Mai University alongside Thai and other international students. Company visits, cultural excursions, and a tour of Bangkok are included.

This program will take you to, Valencia, Barcelona and Madrid -- the most visited destinations in Spain. The coastal life, cultural heritage and architectural splendor of these Spanish cities are simply exhilarating, beautiful and unique. Spain is the twelfth largest economy in the world with many multinational companies and is a member of the European Union which is the largest economy in the world. The location will provide students with exposure to Spanish culture and business practices as well as multiple interactions with students and the local community.

The program begins in Istanbul, the only city in the world built on two continents, Asia and Europe. For the second part of the program, students will study in Kusadasi, one of Turkey’s largest and most cosmopolitan coastal resort towns located along the Aegean Sea. Both program locations are internationally renowned travel destinations providing extraordinary access to industry related business activities. This program will expose students to Turkish culture and doing business in a Muslim society. Students will enhance their understanding of the religion and it’s impact on everyday life and business practices in Turkey.

Apply - Food and Wine of Italy

Imagine being able to create a delicious three course meal of traditional Tuscan recipes - perhaps bruschetta, ravioli from scratch, and Steak Florentine! Even better, imagine having an appreciation for wine that would enable you to select the perfect wine to complement the meal. And let's not forget the perfect cup of espresso with tiramisu.
Now in its seventh year, the Food and Wine of Italy program enables students to gain this expertise at the Apicius International School of Hospitality in Florence, Italy. Students experience hands-on training in a Tuscan kitchen, study and taste the wines of Italy, and will train in front and back of house operations at Ganzo, a student-operated restaurant in the city center. Excursions to view the production of regional specialties such as parmesan cheese and balsamic vinegar augment the curriculum, along with visits to the best food markets and culinary establishments in Florence (gelato and chocolate shops, quirky Panini restaurants, to-die-for bakeries, and intimate wine bars). Time also is built into the schedule for walking tours and museum visits to allow students to soak up the extraordinary art, history, and culture that lend to Florence its special ambiance. This year WSU's executive chef Jamie Callison will coordinate logistics on-site and the Graduation Feast showcasing student accomplishments.
Students are not required to have certified into a business major.

- Health Care in Peru
- Dates: May 23, 2012 - June 13, 2012
This course provides an experience in global health care in the Amazon region of Peru. Students will apply assessment skills in planning and implementing health care to individuals and communities. The program provides an excellent opportunity to analyze the cultural, social, environmental, and economic factors that can influence health care. Field trips include an excursion on the Amazon River and two nights in the jungle, a visit to the Sacred Valley of the Inca, and the Machu Picchu ruins nestled on the eastern slopes of the Vilcanota mountain range.

The Phuket Thailand program offers two learning options for students both are hosted by the Tropical Garden Resort in beautiful Kata Beach, which is owned by a Coug alumni. HBM students can take an international tourism and an authentic Thai cooking class (option A). New or pre-cert business students can take two core required classes - Marketing and Management (option B). All students can take the study abroad cultural awareness seminar to learn the nuances and business practices of the Thai and Asian cultures.

Apply - OPTION B - Iceland & Norway: Vikings in the West

Iceland and Norway constitute a fascinating object of interdisciplinary, academic case study. Their history is intertwined and both nations has developed into modern Western European, high tech nations with high living standards, universal healthcare, and social security benefits, while offering a vibrant social, cultural, and arts scene. In particular, attention to alternative energies, sustainable management, economic development, and scientific research in genetics and geology have characterized Iceland and Norway. During this trip we'll visit museums and sights pertaining to these two Scandinavian nations' past and present to find traces of the rambunctious Vikings in the modern Icelandic and Norwegian open, friendly, and liberal societies. We will also meet with specialists in economics, geology and genetics. Course requirements include preparatory meetings during spring 2012 conducting information research, completion of a travel journal, and a post-travel research paper on a topic at the confluence of science and culture (chosen in conjunction with the instructors).

Students from the School of Architecture will spend 31 days studying the origins of the Modern Movement and its developments over the last 120 years. - Textile, Apparel, and Soft Goods Manufacturing in China

This program will highlight China as a major manufacturer of textiles, apparel, soft goods items, and other products which are exported around the world. The program includes research on the destinations to be visited, travel to three uniquely different Chinese cities, and visits to important historical locations such as the Great Wall and the Forbidden City. In addition, the program will explore textile, apparel and soft goods manufacturing in China through business and industry guest lectures, site visits to manufacturing plants, corporate headquarters of textile and apparel companies and other site visits emphasizing the production and promotion process in China.

- Interior Design in Florence

The program is based at the CEA Global Campus in Florence located in the famous Piazza
della Repubblica. It’s only steps away from the Duomo, Ponte Vecchio, and Uffizi Gallery. All
students will be enrolled in a total of twelve credits and courses are taught in English. In
addition to intriguing courses, the program also includes a number of exciting excursions,
as well as day trips to Prato, Cinque Terre and Lucca, and overnight trips to Venice and Milan to help you further explore Italy.

Spring Semester 2013
- SES Italy Study Abroad Program
- Dates: February 1 - April 27, 2012
Spend the Spring 2013 semester studying global environmental and natural resource issues in Florence, Italy. This program provides WSU students from all majors the opportunity to have a resume building international experience, earn credit and have no transfer hassles! Classes are taught in English, however, students will take an Italian language course. Go on this program and be only three courses away from an ECON minor!
