Financial Planning for Faculty-Led Programs

Financial Planning for Education Abroad (FPEA) is a 45-minute workshop that teaches faculty-led program participants how to determine the final cost of their program and how to develop a payment strategy that enables them to pay the program costs on time.

Attendance at a FPEA workshop prior to the application deadline is required for any student participating on a WSU Faculty-Led Program.

Spring 2013 Programs


SES Italy Study Abroad Program

February 1 - April 27, 2013

Spend the Spring 2013 semester studying global environmental and natural resource issues in Florence, Italy. This program provides WSU students from all majors the opportunity to have a resume building international experience, earn credit and have no transfer hassles! Classes are taught in English, however, students will take an Italian language course. Go on this program and be only three courses away from an ECON minor!

Hearts In Motion

March 8-17, 2013

Travel to Guatemala during spring break and receive academic credit for volunteer work on a service/medical mission with Hearts in Motion (HIM), a nonprofit organization whose goal is to provide care and medical treatment for children, families, and communities.

Business in China

February 23 – April 27, 2013

Take your business classes in China spring semester! China is an excellent location to study international business and Asian culture. The program is offered in Chengdu, the capital of the Sichuan Province. Students can earn academic credit through business visits, various excursions, and classes taught in English.

Business in Switzerland

January 14 – March 29, 2013

Explore Switzerland this Spring while receiving academic credit. The program is located at Cesar Ritz Colleges in Brig, which lies in the heart of the Swiss Alps. Students will take classes taught in English with other international students and get the opportunity to go on excursions.

Summer 2013 Programs


Architecture in Germany, France, & the Netherlands

July 7-August 6

Explore the architecture of Germany, France and the Netherlands! This program will start in Amsterdam, then travel to Berlin and finally to Paris before heading back to Amsterdam to end the trip. It will expose students to the rich history of architecture within the areas as well as more contemporary examples.

Business in Greece

June 6 – July 9, 2013

Explore the land where civilization began! Students will be able to earn academic Business credit while studying and exploring in Greece. Students will enjoy the sun and sea while experiencing an ancient yet modern civilization.

Business in Northern Thailand

May 9 – June 16, 2013

Help celebrate the 10th anniversary of the Chiang Mai program! Students will be able to earn academic Business credits while being immersed into the local culture of Northern Thailand.

Students will get the opportunity to interact with Thai people and visit large and small businesses in the area.

Business in Spain

Option A: May 18 – June 21, 2013
Option B: June 9 – July 13, 2013

Get the opportunity to receive either 6 or 9 credits in Spain this summer! Students will explore Valencia, Barcelona, and Madrid while experiencing Spanish culture and business. Opportunities for internships and service-learning experiences are available.

Cuba:
Backpack Journalism in the Pearl of the Caribbean

May 10 - 20, 2013

This program offers student journalists an opportunity to explore, analyze, and report on a country with a rich history, a unique culture and an intriguing socio-political status in the world. Cuba has a vibrant society with a strong cultural identity, a highly educated population that values the arts, literature, music and dance. During this trip students will meet with American and Cuban journalists working in Havana. Students will visit old and new Havana, schools, museums and sights pertaining to the country’s history and politics. They will also venture outside Havana to visit the countryside, coastal regions and eco-communities to see how Cuba is working to protect its natural resources and botanical beauty.

Cuba: Cuban Culture in the Pearl of the Caribbean

June 10 - 20, 2013

Get the opportunity to visit Cuba this summer and explore their rich culture and heritage. This program offers a great opportunity to connect to the island state and learn from such a vibrant society. During the trip there will be lectures by Cubans and visits to museums and sights pertaining to history, politics, society, and the arts.

Food and Wine of Italy

May 11 – June 22, 2013

What better to place to study food and wine than Florence, Italy! Students will study at Apicius International School of Hospitality and gain hands-on training in a Tuscan kitchen. Students will take a combination of culinary and wine classes and get experience working in front and back of house operations at Ganzo, a student run restaurant in the city center.

Hospitality & Business in Thailand & Malaysia

May 6 – June 14, 2013

Explore Thailand and Malaysia while learning about the culture and customs related to the hospitality and tourism industry! Students will study in Bangkok and Phuket, Thailand and Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. This program offers classroom-based experience as well as a variety of excursions serving as the real-world marketing and management case studies.

Health Care in Peru

May 23 – June 14, 2013

Gain experience in global health care in the Amazon region of Peru! Students will implement health care to individuals and communities. This program is a great opportunity to explore cultural, social, environmental, and economic factors that can influence health care.

Brazil: Culture, Careers, and the Amazon

May 10 – May 25, 2013

Explore two weeks in the fastest growing economy in Latin America! Students will study the Portuguese language, agriculture, and cultural issues relating to the Brazilian culture. This program is offered to both Honors and non-Honors students, and academic credit can be achieved.

Exploring Florence and Rome

May 2013

Visit famous Florentine and Roman art and witness layers of history! Students will experience time in both Florence and Rome and explore the history and heritage behind eternally iconic artwork. This program is offered to both Honors and non-Honors students, and academic credit can be achieved.

Exploring the History & Culture of Ireland

May 2013

Explore Irish history, literature, and culture this summer! Students will spend time in three historically significant places on the island and assess the cultural significance of historical events. This program is offered to both Honors and non-Honors students, and academic credit can be achieved.

The Catalan, The Basque, and the Madrilenians:
Art and Culture in Contemporary Spain

July 6 – July 20, 2013

Discover the artistic and cultural expressions in the Spanish culture! Students will dive into hands-on cultural experiences throughout Spain. Each city will provide a tremendous cultural and artistic understanding that reflects the culture and history of the country. This program is offered to both Honors and non-Honors students, and academic credit can be achieved.

Paris – A Designer’s View

July/August, 2013

Paris. Great writers, musicians, artists, and philosophers have immortalized this unforgettable city, and now it’s your turn! Paris is a center of design, fashion, culinary delights, sensuality, and adventure where personal observations and experiences will synthesize with the engaging lectures and histories provided by faculty and guides.

Science in Greece

June 6 – July 9, 2013

Study math and science at its origin, in Greece this summer! Students will interact with the local population and attend English speaking classes in order to develop an appreciation of the development and use of science in ancient cultures. This trip includes explorations, historical visits, and an experience of a lifetime!

Design in Florence

September 3 - December 20, 2013

The program is based at the CEA Global Cam­pus in Florence located in the famous Piazza della Repubblica. All students will be enrolled in a total of twelve credits and courses are taught in English. In addition to intriguing courses, the program also includes a number of exciting excursions, as well as day trips to Prato, Cinque Terre and Lucca, and overnight trips to Venice and Milan to help you further explore Italy.
