Summer 2014 Programs


Exploring the History & Culture of Ireland

May 10-23, 2014

Explore Irish history, literature, and culture this summer! Students will spend time in three historically significant places on the island and assess the cultural significance of historical events. This program is offered to both Honors and non-Honors students, and academic credit can be achieved.

Scandinavia: The Vikings and Beyond

June 22- July 6, 2014

Get a glimpse of the Viking life!  Travel to Denmark, Norway and Sweden to learn about the Viking Age and explore the past and present Norse cultures through excursions to museums, landmarks and more!

Korea: Global Sport Management in Korea

June 23rd-August 8th, 2014

This experience provides prospective students with three different cities to visit sport venues and sporting events. Courses will be offered in International Sport Management and Venue Management. Moreover, Korea will be able to provide our students with access to its four professional sport leagues so they can better understand the cross-cultural differences. Also, students will acquire experience with Korean culture through visits to palaces, temples, theme parks and Korean traditional markets. In addition, students will have the opportunity to experience various international and Korean cuisines. They will also offer various weekend programs for cultural social experience via different sport activities such as mountain biking, orienteering, and learning Taekwondo (Traditional Korean Martial Art) and Ssirum (Traditional Korean Wrestling).

Paris – A Designer’s View

Paris. Great writers, musicians, artists, and philosophers have immortalized this unforgettable city, and now it’s your turn! Paris is a center of design, fashion, culinary delights, sensuality, and adventure where personal observations and experiences will synthesize with the engaging lectures and histories provided by faculty and guides.

Business in Greece

June 18 – July 12, 2014

Explore the land where civilization began! Students will be able to earn academic Business credit while studying and exploring in Greece. Students will enjoy the sun and sea while experiencing an ancient yet modern civilization.

Business in Northern Thailand

May 8 – June 22, 2014

Help celebrate the 11th anniversary of the Chiang Mai program! Students will be able to earn academic Business credits while being immersed into the local culture of Northern Thailand.

Students will get the opportunity to interact with Thai people and visit large and small businesses in the area.

Get the opportunity to receive either 6 or 9 credits in Spain this summer! Students will explore Valencia, Barcelona, and Madrid while experiencing Spanish culture and business. Opportunities for internships and service-learning experiences are available.

Business in Korea

June 30 - August 8, 2014

The College of Business Korea program is offered on the Campus of Korea University in Seoul.  In Seoul, students can visit the palaces, temples, and theme parks where the Korean pop culture can be experienced. As Seoul is an international city, students can also experience various international and Korean cuisines. 

Cuba: Backpack Journalism in the Pearl of the Caribbean

May 12 –May 23, 2014

This program offers student journalists an opportunity to explore, analyze, and report on a country with a rich history, a unique culture and an intriguing socio-political status in the world. Cuba has a vibrant society with a strong cultural identity, a highly educated population that values the arts, literature, music and dance. During this trip students will meet with American and Cuban journalists working in Havana. Students will visit old and new Havana, schools, museums and sights pertaining to the country’s history and politics. They will also venture outside Havana to visit the countryside, coastal regions and eco-communities to see how Cuba is working to protect its natural resources and botanical beauty.

England: In the Footsteps of Murrow

Journey through London, focusing on the legacy of our country’s most famous journalist, on foreign journalism and on the work of foreign correspondents stationed in Europe.  Examine the historical origins of the Anglo-American press laws and explore where they were created with faculty experts!

Cuba: Cuban Culture in the Pearl of the Caribbean

June 24-July 3, 2014

Get the opportunity to visit Cuba this summer and explore their rich culture and heritage. This program offers a great opportunity to connect to the island state and learn from such a vibrant society. During the trip there will be lectures by Cubans and visits to museums and sights pertaining to history, politics, society, and the arts.

Food and Wine of Italy

May 10 – June 21, 2014

What better to place to study food and wine than Florence, Italy! Students will study at Apicius International School of Hospitality and gain hands-on training in a Tuscan kitchen. Students will take a combination of culinary and wine classes and get experience working in front and back of house operations at Ganzo, a student run restaurant in the city center.

Hospitality & Business in Thailand & Malaysia

May 9 – June 16, 2014

Explore Thailand and Malaysia while learning about the culture and customs related to the hospitality and tourism industry! Students will study in Bangkok and Phuket, Thailand and Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. This program offers classroom-based experience as well as a variety of excursions serving as the real-world marketing and management case studies.

Health Care in Peru

May 22 - June 12, 2014

Gain experience in global health care in the Amazon region of Peru! Students will implement health care to individuals and communities. This program is a great opportunity to explore cultural, social, environmental, and economic factors that can influence health care.

Rwanda: From Farm to Cup

May 10-27, 2014

Join an elite team of Economists and Agri-Business students from three universities (Michigan State University, WSU and the National University of Rwanda) to travel to Rwanda and work together to explore solutions for business and value chain challenges in Rwanda's Coffee Sector. This program is a unique opportunity to apply theoretical skills you've learned in the classroom in a real-world and challenging environment.

Hearts In Motion

Travel to Guatemala during spring break and receive academic credit for volunteer work on a service/medical mission with Hearts in Motion (HIM), a nonprofit organization whose goal is to provide care and medical treatment for children, families, and communities.

Fall 2014 Programs


Business in Switzerland

Dates TBD

Explore Switzerland this Fall while receiving academic credit. The program is located at Cesar Ritz Colleges in Brig, which lies in the heart of the Swiss Alps. Students will take classes taught in English with other international students and get the opportunity to go on excursions.

Design in Florence

Sept. 2 - Dec. 19, 2014

The program is based at the CEA Global Cam­pus in Florence located in the famous Piazza della Repubblica. All students will be enrolled in a total of twelve credits and courses are taught in English. In addition to intriguing courses, the program also includes a number of exciting excursions, as well as day trips to Prato, Cinque Terre and Lucca, and overnight trips to Venice and Milan to help you further explore Italy.

Hearts In Motion

Business in China

Take your business classes in China spring semester! China is an excellent location to study international business and Asian culture. The program is offered in Chengdu, the capital of the Sichuan Province. Students can earn academic credit through business visits, various excursions, and classes taught in English.

Business in Switzerland

SES Italy

02/01/2015-04/30/2015

Study global environmental and natural resource issues in Florence, Italy.  The program provides WSU students from all majors the opportunity to have a resume building international experience, earn credit and have no transfer hassles!  Classes are taught in English, however, students will take an Italian language course.  Go on this program and be only three courses away from an ECON minor!
