Friends and Family
The Friends and Family Program is designed to introduce American family life to international students interested in getting off campus and into the homes of families and community members from the surrounding area. This program strengthens the ties between the campus and community and offers a great opportunity for cross-cultural sharing.
Our goal is to help newcomers feel welcome and at home by building connections for them with local families. Through dinners, holidays, and everyday family events, students learn about American customs and experience U.S. family life. International students enrich our campus and community by bringing their cultures and world views into our classrooms and homes. Families will have the invaluable opportunity to bring the world right to their doorstep.
It is important to realize that the Friends and Family Program is not a host family program. The students do not live with their families, but rather spend time with them during the family’s and student’s free time.
Although it is called the "Friends and Family" program, families are not the only ones encouraged to apply. All members of the Pullman community, regardless of marital/partner status, are invited to take part in this program.
A small commitment and the willingness to help is all that is required. International students and those who wish to serve as a host family are encouraged to complete the application form (in the right side bar). If you would like to apply but are apprehensive because of your lack of experience interacting with international students, an optional cultural orientation is available.
