WSU-Ross University School of Medicine Partnership

Your Journey to Medical School Starts at WSU

If you want to attend a U.S. university that prepares you for medical school – and has a built-in pathway to an accredited, inclusive, and innovative university dedicated to the science of healing – then WSU is the place for you. Our partnership with Ross University School of Medicine (RUSM) was created for students who are not U.S. citizens, permanent residents, or Washington state citizens. 

WSU alumni who have graduated within the past 5 years who are not U.S. citizens, permanent residents, or Washington state citizens are also eligible for the program.

Your Curriculum

Students must have a bachelor’s degree or higher to be considered for admission to RUSM. You can satisfy all prerequisite courses at WSU. Your coursework should include: 

  • Inorganic or General Chemistry: 2 semesters (8 semester hours) with laboratories
  • Organic Chemistry: 2 semesters (8 semester hours) with laboratories
  • General Biology or Zoology: 2 semesters of biology or zoology with laboratories
  • Physics: 2 semesters (8 semester hours) with laboratories
  • Mathematics: 1 semester of college-level mathematics (3 semester hours), preferably calculus or statistics
  • English: 2 semesters (6 semester hours)

Special Benefits for WSU International Grads

Eligible WSU students and alumni receive extra consideration from RUSM upon their graduation from WSU (except where prohibited by law).

  • Waiver of application fees
  • Guaranteed admissions interview
  • Evaluation for academic scholarships
  • Deferment of MCAT
  • Scholarship covering the flight to RUSM for the first semester
  • Scholarship to cover first-semester housing, which  may be eligible for extension into the second semester
  • Familiarization trip to the Island as deemed necessary

 

RUSM Admission Requirements

To be eligible for admission, upon completion of your coursework at WSU you must have

  1. An overall GPA or equivalency of 2.8 or higher
  2. A cumulative GPA of 2.6 or higher in all courses designated as prerequisites for admission
  3. No grade below C or equivalent in any prerequisite course designated by RUSM
  4. All prerequisite coursework must have been completed within 10 years of the date of student application to RUSM (prerequisite course substitutions and/or exceptions may be granted at the sole discretion of the RUSM Faculty Admissions Committee)
  5. A cumulative score of 490 or higher on the MCAT exam and minimum section scores of

i. 123 or greater for Biological and Biochemical Foundations of Living Systems;

ii. 122 or greater for Chemical and Physical Foundations of Biological Systems;

iii. 120 or greater for Critical Analysis and Reasoning Skills; and

iv. 120 or greater for Psychological, Social, and Biological Foundations of Behavior

  1. 2 letters of recommendation
  2. Other minimum admissions requirements required of RUSM’s students as set forth at
    medical.rossu.edu/admissions/admissions-requirements.

Exceptions

Under extraordinary circumstances, RUSM, in its sole discretion, may consider student applicants whose qualifications fall below the threshold qualifications set here.
