Mission and Organization


The Office of International Programs leads and enables global engagement and outreach activities of WSU students, staff, faculty, and communities. Its activities advance the University’s land grant mission and WSU’s priorities in research, education, service, and economic development.

The Office of International Programs works collaboratively to enrich the global culture on WSU campuses and build worldwide awareness of the University’s strengths.


The Office of International Programs supports the mission of Washington State University through international student and scholar services, education abroad and exchange programs, undergraduate admissions for international students and international research for faculty and scholars. The Office of International Programs focuses on establishing strategic partnerships with governments and educational institutions across the globe.

Global Learning

  • Provides transformative student experiences to prepare graduates to lead and excel in a global society
  • Advises students about global opportunities such as study abroad
  • Offers the Global Leadership Certificate to internationalize students’ academic programs of study

Global Partnerships and Research Services

  • Builds strategic alliances with academic institutions and other organizations in many nations
  • Facilitates interdisciplinary partnerships
  • Assesses the impact of WSU’s international partnerships
  • Identifies international funding opportunities
  • Supports internationally relevant research proposals

International Student and Scholar Services

  • Brings students and scholars from around the world to campus
  • Provides orientation programs to help international visitors become integral members of the community
  • Advises students, visiting scholars, and international faculty about immigration regulations related to the University
  • Advances cultural understanding and awareness of the needs and perspectives of international students, scholars, and faculty
  • Ensures compliance with federal Student and Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS) reporting requirements

Academic English and Bridge Programs

  • Assists international students in building English-language proficiency
  • Prepares international students for study at U.S. colleges and universities

Undergraduate Admissions and Recruitment

  • Recruits qualified applicants from around the world
  • Finds the WSU program that best fits those applicants
  • Helps applicants through the admissions process
  • Starts applicants on their lifelong journey as a Coug
