Which situation applies to you?
Graduating WSU
Required actions:
- Submit the Program Completion Form
- Options after graduation:
- Leave the US
- Apply for OPT (F-1 students) or Academic Training (J-1 students)
- Change educational level
- Change immigration status
- Transfer to another school within your grace period
Withdrawing or cancelling enrollment
Required actions:
- Schedule an appointment with ISSS
- Submit the Early Withdrawal Form
- Complete withdrawal request in myWSU
Important
Withdrawing from classes without first consulting ISSS may result in termination of your SEVIS record and could affect your ability to remain in or return to the United States.
Transferring to another school
Required actions:
- Submit Program Completion Form
- Submit SEVIS Transfer Out Form
- Follow transfer procedures for your new school

Planning to return to WSU later
Please refer to these guidelines for a temporary leave of absence (if you plan on returning to WSU)
Important deadlines
- After program completion, you must depart the United States within 30 days.
- If you are withdrawing, you have 15 calendar days to depart from the United States once you have submitted your cancellation request to the WSU Registrar and it has been approved.
Exceptions that allow you to remain in the US
Meet with an International Student and Scholar advisor to verify your eligibility for 1 of the following exceptions:
- If you have completed your program, you can apply to Immigration Services for a change of nonimmigrant status to remain in the United States lawfully
- Reduced course load authorization
- You must obtain this authorization from your international student advisor for medical reasons.
- Summer session enrollment cancellation for continuing students
- You are a continuing student if you were enrolled in spring semester and plan to continue enrollment in fall semester. Summer enrollment is optional for continuing students. You are allowed to cancel your summer session enrollment and remain in the United States during summer as long as you intend to enroll at WSU in the fall semester.
