Provider Programs

WSU partners with trusted third-party program providers to expand education abroad opportunities for WSU students. Provider programs enable WSU to offer numerous academic and professional development opportunities abroad that would otherwise be unavailable, both locationally and experientially. Students who participate in approved provider programs are supported by the Education Abroad department and receive WSU resident credit for coursework completed abroad.

Promoted and Non-Promoted Provider Programs

For each affiliated program provider, WSU selects specific programs from the provider’s portfolio to be recommended and promoted as options. These selections are based on academic fit for WSU students and broad student interest. Additionally, WSU aims to minimize redundancies in program offerings, making available options clearer and easier to navigate for students as well as the broader WSU community. 

Promoted programs are featured in WSU’s myStudyAbroad portal and in Advising Guides, and Education Abroad staff are most familiar with these programs.

Participation in Non-Promoted Provider Programs

While we strongly encourage WSU students to select a promoted program option, most of WSU’s affiliation agreements with third-party program providers entitle WSU students to participate in any program through the affiliate.  However, it is important to understand that WSU’s experience with the non-promoted programs is limited and therefore Education Abroad staff can provide less detailed advising on these programs.

Students who are interested in participating in non-promoted programs through an affiliated provider should start by scheduling an Education Abroad advising appointment. Before applying for a non-promoted program option, students will be asked to address the following:

  • Confirm that they’re aware of the comparable promoted programs.
  • Explain why they prefer the non-promoted option over promoted programs.

This process takes time. Students interested in participating in a non-promoted program should meet with their Education Abroad Advisor as soon as possible, and no later than two weeks before the application deadline for the term they aim to study abroad.
