Orientation for H-1B Employees

Welcome to Washington State University! We will do our best to help you feel at home in the community.

Arrival and check-in

When you arrive at your WSU campus, check in with your hiring unit immediately and email our office at ip.scholars@wsu.edu with copies of your immigration documents if arriving from abroad.

If you work in Pullman

Check in with International Student and Scholar Services in Bryan Hall 206. We have walk-in hours Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 10-11 a.m. and can schedule appointments. Contact us at ip.scholars@wsu.edu or call 509-335-4508.

Documents needed for check-in

International Student and Scholar Services will need copies of the following for you and any accompanying H-4 family members:

Passport

Valid passport with personal identification information

Most recent entry stamp showing H-1B/H-4 visa status and expiration date (Canadian citizens are exempt from H-1B/H-4 visa requirement)

Approval notice

Original Form I-797 H-1B approval notice

I-94 printout

Get I-94 printout from DHS

Orientation session

You will be scheduled to attend a 90-minute orientation session for new H-1B employees, hosted by International Student and Scholar Services.

Your attendance is required. International Student and Scholar Services will email you the session time and location.

The orientation session will build your awareness of immigration requirements and will also help you:

  • Adjust to the campus community
  • Understand immigration regulations pertinent to H-1B status
  • Understand regulations relevant to your dependents’ H-4 status
