Outgoing Exchange

Bilateral exchange

Bilateral exchanges are 1-to-1 students exchanges with a partner institution. They are usually a semester or a year long. Summer exchanges may also be available.

In an exchange program, you will have an immersive experience where you take courses directly from the partner institution, get acquainted with the local culture, and typically have weekends and holidays free to explore…all while paying WSU tuition.

Like most study abroad programs, educational systems and levels of student services can vary and may be different from what you are used to at WSU.

  • Students are encouraged to be independent and willing to seek assistance at their host institution.
  • While a knowledge of the host language is useful, it is usually not required because many exchange courses are taught in English.

Because WSU and our partners need to maintain a balance in how many students are switching spots, the number of spots available each semester/year are limited and applications may be competitive depending on the location.

When we have more applicants than available spots, applicants will enter an interview round and elaborate on the reason/motivation for attending the institution; preparation prior to exchange; and plans before, during, and after exchange. Also, the thoroughness of the bilateral essay and strength of academic reference will be taken into consideration.

Phases of application. Pending. Accepted. Committed. Nominated.

To participate in a bilateral exchange program, start a WSU application, meet with an Exchange Coordinator (required), and submit the following:

  1. Official transcripts
    1. Official transcripts from previous universities/colleges should be submitted as well
    2. Recommended method: Order an electronic copy sent to Global Learning
  2. Letter of recommendation (handed in signed and sealed or emailed to us directly)
  3. Course pre-approval form
  4. Passport copy

ISEP Exchange

ISEP Exchange operates similarly as a bilateral exchange – but offers 160+ institutions for students to choose from. ISEP applicants will be paying both WSU tuition and room & board.

Applications may be competitive depending on the location. However, applicants can list up to 10 options. There will be no interview round if there are more applicants for a certain institution; ISEP will simply inform placement based on the application materials and program lists.

To participate in an ISEP Exchange program, start a WSU application and ISEP application, meet with an Exchange Coordinator (required), and submit the following:
