Language and learning support

Is your English ability preventing you from being successful in your classes or your research? The language support program at the Intensive American Language Center (IALC) can help.

Tutoring support

Tutoring services providing English language support and general academic support are available to all international students across the WSU system via our Zoom tutoring center.

International Teaching Assistant evaluations

International graduate teaching assistants (TAs) must take the university’s language evaluation before beginning their teaching assignments.

International travel

Emergency tuition support

The Office of International Programs offers a 1-time, $1,500 tuition reduction emergency tuition support (amount is subject to change) to students who encounter a financial need caused by circumstances beyond their control while enrolled as a student.

Eligibility

Emergency tuition support is offered only in serious financial circumstances that are beyond your control. For example:

• Loss of an assistantship or scholarship
• Loss of funding resulting from a death, serious illness, or political upheaval in your home country

You will also need to meet the following criteria:

• Maintain F-1 or J-1 visa status at WSU Pullman
• Be in the final stages of your degree program
• Provide evidence that other sources of tuition funding are not available

Students who have previously received an emergency tuition support award from WSU International Programs are not eligible.

International Emergency Fund

The International Emergency Fund is currently closed.

The International Emergency Fund at Washington State University (WSU) is for any student or visitor on an F or J visa status in the WSU system who currently resides in the United States.

Here, an emergency is defined as an unexpected or unforeseen, unplanned occurrence ​beyond the individual’s control that temporarily prevents them from obtaining funds through regular means to meet basic needs. The funds are applied on a case-by-case basis through an application process with priority going to meet basic needs for qualifying circumstances.

The fund does not give individuals money directly but instead makes direct payments for needs such as shelter, emergency medical care, or water/electric/gas service. Certain exclusions may apply.

An individual may be awarded assistance once in a given semester. The committee that awards the funds is composed of faculty and staff in the Office of International Programs.
