Continuous Doctoral Status for Graduate Students

Doctoral students are placed on CDS automatically by the graduate school when they are not enrolled for the term (zero credit enrollment) AND have passed their Prelim Exams. A $50 charge is placed on their student account and students are sent an email confirming they have been placed in CDS status.

However, international students cannot have zero enrollment in the term and maintain legal immigration status. This is where academic rules and immigration rules differ. Students must be enrolled in 10 credits or have ab approved Reduced Course Load to be enrolled in fewer credits if they wish to remain in the U.S. in F or J status. Please book an appointment to speak with one of our advisors at our office about your options in this scenario. We will be happy to assist.

Make up International Tutorial September 3, 2025

If you are a new international student at WSU and this is your first semester, you must have attended an international student tutorial held by our office either on August 13th or August 15th. If you did NOT attend back then, you will have the chance to participate in a make-up session on Wednesday, Sept. 3, 4:30 p.m. – 6:00 p.m. in CUE 202. This session will not be recorded and for those at non-Pullman locations, a Zoom option will be sent directly to you.

Please note attendance at the tutorial is mandatory by Federal regulations of your F and J visa, and an enrollment hold will be placed on student accounts of those that fail to participate in the session until participate in the next orientation session in the first week of January 2026.

If you have any questions, please contact our office at ip.intlservices@wsu.edu or +1 509-335-4508.

New Advising system and process for ISSS

WSU ISSS is here to serve you. In an effort to increase the amount of availability and appointments with our advisors and to ensure we have enough time to meet with each student and review your case to support you well, we have moved to an appointment only system for next-day appointments and are now available throughout the day to speak with you either in-person or over Teams by booking through this link. Any same-day emergencies can be accommodated by calling 509-335-4508. We hope this new process will allow you more frequent and longer contact with our office to receive better support.

Please note that 3 no shows on booked appointments will result in advising only over email for one month. If you cannot make your appointment, please cancel it or contact our office so we can accommodate others that need that time. Thank you for your understanding.
