Special Programs

Fulbright-Fogarty Fellowships in Public Health

The Fulbright-Fogarty Fellowships are offered through a partnership between the Fulbright Program and the Fogarty International Center of the U.S. National Institutes of Health. These awards were established to promote the expansion of research in public health and clinical research in resource-limited settings.

The Fogarty International Center, NIH, will provide support to the research training site and may provide orientation for the Fellows at the NIH. In addition, NIH will provide a pre-departure orientation for selected Fellows in Washington, DC.

To participate in the Fulbright-Fogarty Fellowships in Public Health, the applicant must be a U.S. citizen and:

  • Be enrolled in graduate or medical school. Applicants who hold a doctorate are ineligible.
  • Have sufficient proficiency in the host language to carry out the project required.

Other basic requirements and process for applying to the Fulbright-Fogarty Program are the same as for any Fulbright U.S. Student Study/Research Grant.

Fulbright-National Geographic Award

The Fulbright-National Geographic Award Program is seeking proposals that undertake an in-depth examination of globally relevant issues as an add-on to the Fulbright Open Study/Research project. Funded projects will incorporate science, storytelling, and/or education, and must align with one or more of the Society’s five focus areas: Ocean, Land, Wildlife, Human Histories and Cultures, or Human Ingenuity. This award is made possible through a partnership between the U.S. Department of State and the National Geographic Society.

Successful Fulbright-National Geographic applicants, in addition to receiving standard Fulbright U.S. student Study/ Research benefits and additional grant funds, will join the National Geographic Society’s global community of Explorers and gain access to resources and opportunities such as trainings, regional Explorer events, speaking engagements, and dedicated mentor and staff support. The National Geographic Society expects to select up to five applicants for its award.

Save the date! Luncheon meet & greet, Feb. 15, 2024

As an international research scholar at Washington State University, you may have questions about having a successful research experience on a day-to-day basis in the lab, in your research support, your tax status, and more. The Office of International Programs (IP) would like to give you the opportunity to find those answers and resources to address on-going questions you may have.

On February 15, 2024, from 11:45 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. in Butch’s Den in the CUB, you can join IP for a lite luncheon meet and greet with a panel discussion. The panelists include experts from the Office of Research Assurances, Office of Research and Support Operations, Office of Environmental Health and Safety, and Payroll Services. The focus of the panel is to answer questions you have currently and to meet the University experts who can guide you through policies and procedures surrounding your research in an ongoing capacity. Questions can be given in advance at this survey or in person at the event during the moderated panel conversation.

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact Erin-Kae Rice, WSU Fulbright Liaison, at ekrice@wsu.edu or 509-335-4352.
