  1. Social Security event update

Unfortunately, the Social Security Administration will not be on campus this Friday, Aug. 26, to process Social Security applications. Instead, International Student and Scholar Services (ISSS) will provide transportation to the Lewiston office. Sign up is required: wsu.co1.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_0MR0PITgILqVcJo

Due to this situation, ISSS will be closed Friday, Aug. 26, for the day.

We will leave campus every 15 minutes from 8:15 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Please meet at the Chinook bus stop at least 10 minutes before your selected time slot. The time to travel to and from Lewiston and apply for a Social Security number will take approximately 2.5 hours.

F-1/J-1 visa holders must bring the following original Items with them (applications will be denied if original documents are not provided)

  1. Social Security application (online here: www.ssa.gov/forms/ss-5.pdf or from ISSS)
  • We strongly recommend you complete the online application here: www.ssa.gov/ssnumber/
  • Remember to write down the reference number or take a picture of it. You can use this number when you get to the Social Security Office to complete the application faster.
  1. Immigration documents:
  • Valid passport
  • I-94 record (print from this website: i94.cbp.dhs.gov/)
  • Visa (or change of status approval)
  • Current I-20 or DS-2019
  1. For F-1 students: On-campus employment offer letter (ISSS stamp and signature required)
  • If departments previously mailed these to International Programs 5121 or dropped them off at Bryan Hall 206, we will have them ready.
  1. For J-1 visa holders: Please email Jill Burrus at jill.burrus@wsu.edu for more information.
