1. ISSS office hours and request processing times

ISSS is open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. with open advising hours between 1 and 3 p.m. Pacific (Pullman) time. We process requests submitted in the myPassport system within 5 business days. Please visit our webpage for updated information related to Covid-19 and government regulations impacting international students.

If you have any questions or concerns, please email ip.intlservices@wsu.edu or call +1 509-335-4508.

2. Update address in myPassport

Your address updates in myWSU no longer feed into myPassport, the system that reports changes to the U.S government. Therefore, please make sure that you complete an Address Update Form in myPassport within 10 days of changing addresses. This is a government regulation.

3. Academic dismissal or recession and impact on status

If you are in the U.S. and have been dismissed or recessed from WSU for the spring 2022 term due to a low GPA, please speak with an International Student Advisor immediately! Your immigration status is tied to your enrollment, so you will need to act soon to remain in the United States.

Do you need to return home or are you having a hard semester and thinking about canceling all your classes (withdrawing from all your classes)? If so, please speak with an International Student Advisor before you do anything. Your F-1 or J-1 status is tied to your full-time enrollment. Unless you have a documented serious medical issue and have received approval from ISSS, you CANNOT remain in the United States without enrollment. (Summer is excluded.)

An International Student Advisor can discuss your options with you and guide you through the process. Please attend our open advising hours between 1-3 p.m.

4. WSU holiday closure Jan. 17

Please note ISSS and most campus offices will be closed on Jan.17 in honor of Martin Luther King Junior. Classes start the next day, Jan. 18.

5. COVID vaccine guidance

WSU is now accepting persons who received mixed doses of U.S. FDA-approved/authorized or WHO-EUL vaccines as being fully vaccinated after the prescribed time has passed. This follows new CDC guidance about using mixed vaccines for the primary vaccination series. However, Cougar Health Services will not be providing mixed doses for the Pfizer-BioNTech or Moderna vaccination series.

6. Academic integrity and plagiarism – Why is it important?

At Washington State University, violations of academic integrity such as plagiarism, unauthorized assistance, and fabrication are taken seriously. Taking part in acts of academic dishonesty can lead to permanent expulsion from WSU, so it is important that you be aware of what academic dishonesty means and how to avoid it.

If you are expelled from WSU, you will need to return to your home country immediately or find another school to transfer to where you can finish your degree. So, it is important you take this seriously.

7. Get involved at WSU!

The Get Involved Fair is on Wednesday, Jan. 19, from 4 to 6 p.m. in the CUB Senior Ballroom. There will be many Registered Student Organizations (RSOs) to join, free pizza and ice cream, raffles, and more! You can see more about this event and register on Coug Presence.

Also, the Cougs Lead program is accepting applications! This free program is for first- and second-year students and gives participating students the chance to meet others outside their majors and develop new skills, both personally and as leaders. Program participants will learn about resources on campus and how to continue their involvement at WSU. You can learn more and apply here by Friday, Jan. 21 at 5 p.m. For any questions, email sild.cougslead@wsu.edu.
