  1. University of Idaho Immigration Clinic

University of Idaho offers free immigration consultations to students. The immigration advice they provide falls beyond the scope of ISSS advisors (e.g., Permanent Residency application, asylum, etc.). Please note the University of Idaho Immigration Clinic is offered through Undocumented Initiatives.

Please contact Undocumented Initiatives for an appointment: bit.ly/undocumentedinitiativesbookings

  1. Is spring 2022 your last semester at WSU?

If you will be leaving WSU after spring 2021, please let ISSS know your plans!

The three most common actions taken at the end of studies are:

  1. Depart the United States. If you will be leaving the United States at the end of spring 2021, please log in to https://mypassport/wsu.edu and complete the Program Completion Form.
  2. Apply for OPT. To apply for OPT, please complete the Optional Practical Training form found under F-1 Student Services in https://mypassport.wsu.edu. J-1 students may be eligible for Academic Training, which is similar to OPT. The Academic Training request form can be found on https://mypassport.wsu.edu.
  3. Transfer SEVIS record. If you will be transferring your SEVIS record to another U.S school, please log in to https://mypassport.wsu.edu and complete the SEVIS Transfer Out form. In this form, please indicate what date you would like us to transfer your SEVIS record to the other institution.
  1. March 8, 2022: Priority registration for summer 2022*

If you would like to save some money in tuition and potentially complete your degree earlier, check out WSU’s summer session. All students pay in-state tuition for the summer session!

Priority registration for summer session classes begins March 8, 2022.

More information on available classes, tuition, and deadlines can be found here: https://summer.wsu.edu/

*If you are an Academic English or Bridge (Foundation or International Master’s program) student, please check with Kimberly Cooper at kimberly.a.cooper@wsu.edu to learn if you can apply for summer session.

  1. Cougar Food Pantry-halal options

The International Center wants to remind International Students that they are eligible to use the Cougar Food Pantry on campus. The Cougar Food Pantry is a fully stocked pantry that provides free food to Pullman students experiencing food insecurity. The pantry stocks nonperishable pantry staples that let students create nutritious, filling meals and snacks. It is open to all students who need some help with obtaining food or supplementing their food budget.  The food pantry carries many different types of food including halal options.

Some students have expressed concerns about using the food pantry and it creating a negative impact on their immigration status. This is NOT true. WSU students pay fees that help support the food pantry. As such, all WSU students are eligible to use the food pantry without concern for their immigration status.

The food pantry is located on the ground floor of the Compton Union Building near Washington State Employees Credit Union (WSECU) and the entrance to Terrell Library and is open Monday-Friday from 10 a.m.-6 p.m. and Sunday from 10 a.m.-2 p.m.

  1. Tax time! Sprintax software available soon and workshops

It is time for taxes. IP-ISSS will be offering access to a tax software designed for international students and scholars called Sprintax starting March 7. Deadline for filing your taxes is April 18, 2022.

Note: ISSS does not provide tax advice, so please refer tax questions to tax specialists or through the chat function of the software when it becomes available.

Did you have NO income in 2021?

International students who did not receive U.S.-based income should still file a tax form, Form 8843, prior to June 1. You can also download the form at irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/f8843.pdf.

Did you have income in 2021? Do you have dependents?

As of March 7, you can log in to myPassport.wsu.edu and select Tax Software to fill out the form to request access to Sprintax.

International students who were employed at WSU in calendar year 2021 will receive a report of wage earnings (form W-2) from the Payroll Service Office. Students should use this form to complete and send their tax return to the U.S. government.

Sprintax webinars to prepare for your tax filing!

Although the Sprintax software will not be available for download until March 7, please visit the Sprintax How to Prepare for the 2021 US Tax season blog, watch their YouTube videos, and attend one of the Sprintax Tax Webinars, listed below.
