  1. March 7, 2022: Priority registration for summer 2022*

If you are looking to save some money in tuition and potentially complete your degree earlier, then check out WSU’s summer session. All students pay in-state tuition for the summer session!

Priority registration for summer session classes begins March 7, 2022.

More information on available classes, tuition, and deadlines can be found here: https://summer.wsu.edu/

*If you are an Academic English or Bridge student, please check with Kimberly Cooper at kimberly.a.cooper@wsu.edu to check if you can apply for summer session.

  1. Graduate students and conferences

Are you a graduate student invited to physically present at a conference? Congratulations!

Even if you are paying for the conference yourself, you may be receiving travel reimbursement, so please be aware of certain restrictions. Often the conference provider will request documentation from ISSS that we approved this conference participation before they will process any travel reimbursement.

Please note that only ISSS or your campus DSO can provide status confirmation letters unless you have applied for CPT authorization for participation in this conference.

  1. International Women’s Week: March 8-11!

The International Center and the Women*s Center, along with other campus partners, present International Women’s Week! International Women’s Day is March 8, and we will have events throughout that week to celebrate. Visit the Women*s Center, Office of International Programs, the Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art, and other campus and student organizations at their tables in the CUB (and enter to win a prize!), join one of the Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art events, and attend Coffee Hour in the International Center. For more information, please see the schedule of events here: https://women.wsu.edu/programs/international-womenstars-week/.

NOTE: The Coffee Hour theme is family-work-life balance. Because of this, we encourage attendees to bring their children ages 2-12 as child care [SDL1] will be provided. If you plan to attend the Coffee Hour and bring your children, please register here: https://wsu.co1.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_2gijEhhcYjpQL7E..

  1. Graduation sash request

Congratulations on your upcoming graduation!  In connection with the Graduation Celebration, IP-International Student and Scholar Services (IP-ISSS) will be offering a graduation sash to any international student who is graduating this semester and participating in the graduation ceremony for a price of $15.  The graduation sash represents your home country.

The request form will be available starting March 10, and the deadline to submit your request is Thursday, March 31, 2022. Students will receive an email confirmation upon successful submission.

Students will need to check myWSU for the amount due and pay in advance to collect the sash.

Pullman campus students must pick up their sash at Bryan Hall 206 by May 6, 2022, no later than 4 p.m. that day but ideally before. Students outside of Pullman will be able to pick up their sashes from a WSU staff member at their location. Questions may be directed to ip.intlservices@wsu.edu and/or to the DSO at the respective campuses.

You must submit a Sash Request to receive the sash on the Graduation Celebration Day.  You may request it through myPassport.wsu.edu.

  1. Tax time! Sprintax software available soon and workshops

It is time for taxes. IP-ISSS will be offering access to a tax software designed for international students and scholars called Sprintax starting March 7. Deadline for filing your taxes is April 18, 2022.

Note: ISSS does not provide tax advice, so please refer tax questions to tax specialists or through the chat function of the software when it becomes available.

Did you have NO income in 2021?

International students who did not receive U.S.-based income should still file a tax form, Form 8843, prior to June 1. You can also download the form at irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/f8843.pdf.

Did you have income in 2021? Do you have dependents?

As of March 7, you can log in to myPassport.wsu.edu and select Tax Software to fill out the form to request access to Sprintax.

International students who were employed at WSU in calendar year 2021 will receive a report of wage earnings (form W-2) from the Payroll Service Office. Students should use this form to complete and send their tax return to the U.S. government.
