Please read this information as a guide to help you with your studies and to maintain valid immigration status. The information below applies to international students at all campuses.

Our office must report enrollment or approve a Reduced Course Load (RCL) for all new and continuing F-1 and J-1 students each semester and report that in the government-based system SEVIS. The cutoff day for full-time enrollment (12 credits undergraduate students, and 10 credits graduate students) or having an RCL on file is Jan. 20, 2023, (day 10 of the semester).  

If you have any questions, please visit one of our advisors during open advising (Zoom or in-person) from Monday through Friday between 1-3 p.m. 

  1. Social Security information for international students 

For F-1/J-1 visa holders who need to apply for a Social Security number, the International Student and Scholar Services (ISSS) office will offer transportation to the Social Security Administration (SSA) Lewiston office on Friday, Jan. 13. There are two options: 8 a.m. or noon and space is limited to 55 participants per trip. To sign up, please email Jill Burrus at jill.burrus@wsu.edu using your WSU email. 

 For new spring 2023 students, you must complete a mandatory immigration check-in with ISSS (myPassport at New Student Check-In; three forms are required) prior to going to SAA. You may do this within 2 days of arriving in the U.S.  

F-1/J-1 visa holders must bring the following original Items with them:

  1. On-Campus Employment Offer Letter 
    1.  For F-1 students: On-Campus Employment Offer Letter requires an ISSS stamp and signature
      1. If departments previously mailed these to ISSS (5121) or dropped them off at Bryan Hall 206, we will have them ready.
    2. For J-1 visa holders: Please email Jill Burris for more information.
  2.  Social Security Application. Complete online here: gov/ssnumber/ and write down the reference number to provide to a staff member at the SSA office 
  3.  Valid passport
  4.  Valid Form I-10
  5. I-94 record. Print rom this website: i94.cbp.dhs.gov/ 
  6.  Visa (or change of status approval)
