  1. Priority registration for spring 2023 begins Nov. 7

Priority registration for spring 2023 classes begins Nov. 7. Be sure you enroll early to get all the classes you want!

To make sure you can enroll early, log in to myWSU and check your holds (on the top right corner of the screen). Some holds may impact your ability to enroll for spring 2023 classes. If so, you will need to get them removed early. Here is more information on holds: https://registrar.wsu.edu/registration-holds

NOTE

The International Student DROP Hold will not prevent you from registering for spring 2023, but the International Programs hold (no drop) WILL.

  1. Your country’s flag pin for graduation

Congratulations on your upcoming graduation! In connection with the Graduation Celebration, IP-International Student and Scholar Services (ISSS) will be offering a graduation flag pin to all international students expected to graduate this fall and who complete a Program Completion eform in mypassport by Nov. 10, 2022. The flag pin will be from your home country.

Pullman campus students must pick up their pin at Bryan Hall 206 by no later than 4 p.m. on Dec. 9, but ideally before. Students outside of Pullman will have their pins mailed if they provide a mailing address. Questions may be directed to ip.intlservices@wsu.edu.

Thank you and congratulations from all of us in ISSS!

  1. Change your clocks Nov. 6 – Daylight Savings Time ends

Set your clocks back (those not on your phone) one hour before you go to bed on Saturday, Nov. 5. Daylight Savings Time officially ends this year at 2 a.m. on Sunday, Nov. 6. This means we gain an hour of sleep, so enjoy!

  1. Veterans Day holiday Nov. 11

International Student and Scholar Services and most WSU offices will be closed (even virtually) on Friday, Nov.11, in honor of Veterans Day. This is a national and university holiday so there will be no classes scheduled on this day.

  1. Support letters from ISSS

Our office often receives requests for visa support letters for individuals and/or their dependents. So, we would like to make clear what our office can attest to.

We can provide status confirmation letters only, attesting if the F-1 or J-1 visa holder has been maintaining their immigration status in the U.S.

We cannot comment on academic performance, make a formal request for a visa to be approved, nor attest to personal skills such as work ethic and communication. We too cannot attest to ties individuals may have back in their home country.

Additionally, we often attend professional development webinars in the International Education field and can confirm we heard from consular officials themselves that external letters are rarely considered in the visa process.

If you have any questions about the above announcements, please contact International Student and Scholar Services.
