1.    Priority registration for spring 2021 begins Nov. 9

Priority registration for spring 2021 classes begins Nov. 9. Be sure you enroll early to get all the classes you want!

To make sure you can enroll early, log in to myWSU and check your holds (on the top right corner of the screen). Some holds may impact your ability to enroll for spring 2021 classes. If so, you will need to get them removed early. Here is more information on holds: https://registrar.wsu.edu/registration-holds.

Note: The International Student DROP Hold will not prevent you from registering for spring 2021, but the International Programs hold (no drop) WILL.

2.    No-travel recommendation

We understand the desire of International Students to reunite with their families during the holidays, but in accordance with WSU’s recommendation on travel to all students, and to mitigate the spread of Covid-19 in the community, we strongly recommend that you reconsider any plan to travel to other locations in the U.S. and more specifically, internationally.

As a reminder, we have yet to hear from ICE-SEVP on immigration guidance for spring term. Please speak with an international student advisor or your local DSO BEFORE traveling, as we may have updated guidance to provide at that time.

3.    Change your clocks Nov. 3 – Daylight Savings Time ends

Set your clocks back (those not on your phone) one hour before you go to bed on Saturday, Oct. 31. Daylight Savings Time officially ends this year at 2 a.m. on Sunday, Nov. 1. This means we gain an hour of sleep, so enjoy!

4.    Veterans Day holiday Nov. 11

International Student and Scholar Services and most WSU offices will be closed (even virtually) on Wednesday, Nov.11, in honor of Veterans Day. This is a national and university holiday so there will be no classes scheduled on this day.

5.    International Emergency fund

The Office of International Programs has created and maintains the International Emergency Fund, which is intended for any:

·         student or visitor on an F or J visa status AND

·         has current status in the WSU system as a student or paid worker AND

·         who currently resides in the United States.

An emergency is defined as an unexpected or unforeseen, unplanned occurrence beyond the individual’s control that temporarily prevents them from obtaining funds through regular means to meet basic needs.

If you fit the criteria above, and are in need of assistance, please visit this page for information on how to apply: https://ip.wsu.edu/on-campus/international-emergency-fund/
