Thank you for your interest in learning English at Washington State University’s Intensive American Language Center.

Steps to Apply

You must be at least 18 years old the date you begin studying at the IALC, and you must be a high school graduate.

Follow these steps to apply to the Intensive American Language Center (IALC) at Washington State University in Pullman or the Tri-Cities.

Upload An Official Bank Statement

Applicants must show that they have at least $12,868 for tuition, fees, and living expenses for 16 weeks of study. Price is subject to change.

Financial guarantees must include our school name and dates of study.

Use A Credit Card Online to Pay the Nonrefundable $50 Application Fee

Washington State University accepts Visa, MasterCard, Discover and American Express.

NOTES
Overseas applications must be received at least one month before the start date of the session you plan to attend.

If you are unable to attend the IALC for the session you have been admitted, you will need to re-apply for a later session. If you have a reason beyond your control that prevented you from attending, please contact us about a deferment to the next available session.

Applying For Conditional Admission to WSU

You can apply for admission to Washington State University and the IALC at the same time.

To qualify for conditional admission, you will need to meet all WSU admission requirements except for language proficiency.

If you are granted conditional admission, you will enroll in the IALC’s language program. After finishing Level 5 of the academic English program with a qualifying grade, you will be able to enroll in a degree program at Washington State University.

Apply for International Undergraduate Admission

  • Indicate in your application that you plan to study at the Intensive American Language Center to complete the English requirement for admission.
  • Follow the application instructions and be sure to submit all required supporting documents.

Apply to the Intensive American Language Center (IALC)

  • Remember that IALC admission and WSU admission require separate applications and have different admission criteria.
  • You will need to pay a fee and provide specific documents for each application.

Successful applicants will be admitted to the Intensive American Language Center, where they will study English.

When you complete Level 5 of the IALC program with an average grade of “B” or better, you will have met the University’s English proficiency requirement and can then enroll at WSU as a degree-seeking student.

Important Housing Information

Before signing a lease for off-campus housing in Pullman, you must check to see if the University’s freshman live-in requirement applies to you.

WSU Tri-Cities students do not have a freshman live-in requirement. They can live in off-campus apartments or housing.

If you are a student who is enrolled at the Pullman IALC and intend to enroll in an undergraduate degree program at WSU are required to live in University approved housing for one academic year if you are:

  • An undergraduate freshman;
  • Under 20 years old when classes begin; and
  • Not married.

If you are attending the IALC and do not intend to become a WSU undergraduate student, you may choose to live in the University’s on-campus housing or off campus in the Pullman community.
