This is the last regularly scheduled Immigration Advisory for 2023. We’ll resume our schedule in January. Until then, we wish you and your family a happy, healthy holiday and a joyous New Year

  1. Taxes

Tax season is approaching (January through April), so it’s time to start learning about U.S. tax terms and regulations. Please visit our website to learn more about taxes and what to prepare for.

  1. Taxes for international students who receive grants/scholarships above the cost of tuition and mandatory fees

If you receive grants and/or scholarships above the cost of tuition and mandatory fees throughout the year, please make sure to check your student account each semester (around midterm is perfect) and connect with the Bursar’s office within the same tax year if you do see a tax withholding charge. (A tax year is from Jan. 1 through Dec. 31.)

Charges within the same tax year can be fixed, but after Dec. 31 it is more complicated.

  1. International Programs office hours for winter break: Plan ahead!

The ISSS office will be closed but available for emergencies during the December Holiday Reduced Operations break between Dec. 26 and Jan. 1. During that time, we cannot commit to processing requests so PLAN AHEAD if you need to submit a request to our office before the end of the month.

Please email ip.intlservices@wsu.edu for questions or to arrange an advising appointment. We will make sure someone from our team is available to help during this time.

  1. Update your address

Per immigration regulations, F and J students must report address changes within 10 days of any move. Update your information in the myPassport system: F-1/J-1 Student Services > F-1/J-1 Address Update Form. Also, update it in your myWSU account.

  1. Pullman students only: WSU Pullman dining options in December and early January

If you are staying in campus housing, dining services will have limited availability over the December holiday. Please visit the Dining Services’ Facility Hours web page for information on what will be open and business hours.

If you have any questions about the above announcement, please contact International Student and Scholar Services.
