  1. Presidents’ Day holiday – Feb. 20

Feb. 20 will be a class holiday (no classes) for WSU students. Please note that all university offices, including ISSS, will be available!

  1. University of Idaho Immigration Clinic

University of Idaho offers free immigration consultations to students. The immigration advice they provide falls beyond the scope of ISSS advisors (e.g., Permanent Residency application, asylum, etc.).

Contact the U of I Immigration Clinic for an appointment: uidaho.edu/law/academics/practical-skills/clinics/immigration

  1. Orientation hold

Do not wait! Check your myWSU holds. Login to my.wsu.edu and look in the top right of your screen. What holds do you see?

Some of these holds may stop you from being able to enroll in classes for fall 2023, so take care of them now!

One of the most common holds that new undergraduate students may see is Orientation. The Orientation hold is placed if you have failed to attend either New Student Programs or International Programs Orientation. You will have the hold lifted only after you attend the next orientation session before the first week of class.

  1. Energy assistance program

The Pullman Community Action Center offers emergency assistance programs. Please contact them for assistance as temperatures drop: 509.334.9147.

  1. Office of the Registrar term withdrawal request

If you are approved for an authorized early withdrawal request with your office and will depart the U.S., do not forget to submit an Office of the Registrar term withdrawal request as well. The authorized early withdrawal request with your office does not automatically cancel your enrollment with WSU. You must still submit a formal request with the Registrar’s office.

  1. Tax time! Sprintax software and workshops available soon

ISSS will offer free access to tax preparation software called Sprintax starting Feb. 15. Sprintax is specifically designed for international students and scholars. The deadline for filing 2022 taxes is April 18, 2023.

Did you have NO income in 2022?

International students and scholars who did not receive U.S.-based income must still file a tax form called Form 8843. Sprintax can assist with Form 8843. You will need to print and mail Form 8843 to: Department of the Treasury, Internal Revenue Service Center, Austin, TX 73301-0215.

To have Sprintax help with Form 8843, you may log into myPassport.wsu.edu and select ‘Tax Software’ to fill out the form to request access to Sprintax. A unique verification code will be emailed to you at your WSU email within three business days.  This is available as of Wednesday, Feb. 15.

International students/scholars who were employed at WSU in 2022 will receive a report of wage earnings called Form W-2 from the Payroll Services Office. W-2s became available after Jan. 31. Students should use this form to complete and submit their tax return.

  • Did you receive a scholarship for room and board or are you using a tax treaty benefit? This means you will receive Form 1042-S. The Payroll Services Office is required to issue Form 1042-S no later than March 15. Form 1042-S is mailed to the address you provide in myWSU. IMPORTANT: You must wait until you receive Form 1042-S to file your taxes.
