  1. U.S. entry restriction for travelers coming from India

On April 30, 2021, President Biden signed a proclamation effective May 4, 2021, which bars entry of travelers coming from India. Later the same day, the Department of State included India in its National Interest Exception (NIE) policies. The U.S. Embassy in India also posted an FAQ to help clarify questions from international students returning to the U.S. or starting academic programs on or after August 1.

Our thoughts are with our Indian students and their families, as well as with all our international students currently facing a rise in Covid-19 cases and/or an unsettling political climate. We will continue to monitor the travel situation and keep you informed of any changes concerning your ability to attend classes on campus.

If you have any questions about the Proclamation or travel, please contact our office to speak with an International Student Advisor.

  1. Genesee, Idaho, High School geography class wanting to interview international students

Greg Hardie is a geography teacher at Genesee High School and is interested in interviewing international students (especially from African, Middle Eastern, and Asian countries) as they are part of the world the students are studying right now.

He has done Zoom interviews with a number of international students in the past with his classes, and it has always been a great learning experience for his students. He believes it can also be enjoyable for the international students who share about their country.

The geography class runs from 2:30-3:15 p.m. Pacific team each weekday, so the student being interviewed would need to be available during that time.

If you are interested in being interviewed, he would love the opportunity to discuss the possibility with you.

He can be reached via email at ghardie@sd282.org

  1. AE and Bridge students end of spring 2021 term and start of summer 2021 term

For current AE and Bridge students: Spring final grades will be available on Wednesday, May 12. Progression will be processed as soon as possible after that date, and you will be notified via email whether you progressed or not. If you have any questions, please email our office at ialc@wsu.edu.

For AE and Bridge students taking summer classes: AE and Bridge classes begin on May 10 and end on July 30. If you are interested in taking summer AE or Bridge classes and are not already enrolled, please email Kimberly at kimberly.a.cooper@wsu.edu.

  1. Grading accommodation: Spring 2021

Spring 2021 is the last term that the No Record, Covid (NRC) grade will be available. The NRC grade was available for fall 2020 and spring 2021 semesters. It is not available for previous semesters, including spring 2020 and summer 2020, and it will not be available for future terms.

The timeline to request the grade will be May 14-June 4, 2021. More information can be found here.

Sponsored students should also get their sponsor’s approval before choosing this option. Students need to work with the instructor of the course to ask for an incomplete grade instead if they prefer. Typically, a student and instructor come to an agreement about when the work will be completed so a final grade can be given. You may also find the University’s Incomplete Policy here.
